The Future of Spatial Stack: Why I’m doubling down on the conversations that matters most in geospatial

Over the last few months, I’ve had a chance to step back and ask a simple but vital question: what do I actually want the Spatial Stack to be?
Not just the podcast. Not just a channel. But the broader movement it’s becoming.
I’ve been fortunate to spend the last year at the intersection of technical depth and practical application: from building tutorials and pipelines to jumping into a new role at Wherobots and learning a whole new layer of the cloud-native geospatial stack. It’s been one of the fastest and most rewarding learning curves of my career.
But it also reminded me that knowledge alone isn’t enough. We need context. We need reflection. And more than anything, we need better ways to share and shape the ideas moving this field forward.
Why I’m Hitting “Record” Again
What started as some YouTube livestreams and ad-hoc tutorials has morphed into something bigger. People kept showing up. The conversations got deeper. And it became clear that there was a hunger not just for technical walkthroughs, but for something more human and more expansive:
- What are we really doing with all this spatial data?
- Why does it still feel like we’re stuck in our own echo chamber?
- How do we reach the industries and decision-makers that have no idea geospatial could help them—yet?
The Spatial Stack is my answer to those questions.
Three Principles Guiding Everything Moving Forward
- Break the Echo Chamber
If we keep talking only to each other, we limit our reach. Spatial tools are more powerful than ever—but the audience for them is still too narrow. This platform is about spotlighting how geospatial is being applied outside the typical GIS playbook. - Find the Opportunity
Whether it’s careers, business models, or datasets, the geospatial world is full of hidden doorways. I want to use this space to open them—especially for those looking to grow their role in the field. - Do Better Together
At every event I attend, I’m reminded of how passionate and collaborative this community is. But we need to go from passive community to active support system. I want this to be a space where people not only get inspired, but also connect, partner, and build.
What to Expect
This podcast will now feature three types of content:
- Short solo riffs: Think audio versions of my LinkedIn posts or newsletter essays. Candid, fast takes on trends, tools, and lessons learned—delivered in 5–10 minutes.
- Conversations with experts like Mina Nada: We’ll dig into Earth observation, climate, and how to make massive datasets useful to people who’ve never touched a raster file.
- Long-form interviews: Honest, wide-ranging conversations with leaders who are applying geospatial in new and unexpected places.
What This Means for You
If you’ve ever felt like your work in geospatial is undervalued or misunderstood outside of your immediate circle, this is your show. My goal is to help us stop preaching to the choir and start translating our work into a wider world that needs what we’re building—even if they don’t know it yet.
Thanks for sticking around. New episodes are coming fast—and I hope they challenge, inform, and energize you the same way making them does for me.
